Osborn Nweze Umahi chairs Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State. He took the oath of office on 1 September 2026, after winning the chairmanship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
He was born in Ebonyi on 14 March 1998, the first son of Senator David Nweze Umahi, governor of the state from 2015 to 2023 and now Nigeria’s Minister of Works. Osborn finished his early schooling in Nigeria, left for London at fifteen, and qualified as a civil engineer at the University of Surrey. He later took a master’s degree in finance and investment management at the University of Aberdeen.
Before the election he led Brass Oil and Construction Limited and held interests in energy, finance, and hotels. In office he has set the work as infrastructure, youth employment, and services people use every day.

Public service
Ohaozara is eleven wards. In the first fortnight the chairman asked each ward, through its councillor, to name five projects the community considers urgent. The submissions can come to fifty-five proposals: roads, classrooms, clinics, and whatever else the wards put first.
He told the inauguration that grading of key rural roads, and completion of health centres already underway, would begin within a hundred days. With that he named a youth programme in agriculture and technology, town halls, and youth aides inside the council.
He will not take the statutory salary or allowances of the office.
